“Black Swan Projects” – Business Jargon From the Office

I heard the office jargon “Black Swan” being used in a different context today – sort of “Great project ideas which are a bit away from strategy/roadmaps”.

Previously, it meant “high impact, low probability risk materialising into an event” that affects your project negatively – i.e. causes overspend or failure.

See this article talking about “Black Swan events” hitting IT projects.

Now it’s also being used in an Product context to describe “Projects that are highly promising, but far away from current product roadmap trajectory”.
