Today we demonstrated the “OPTIMAL MEMORY RIG” at the “Digital Economy 2014” conference at Imperial College London. This “Rig” uses BBC Archive clips to trigger an emotional reaction in users, and to measure their “fixation” on topics.
In a frantic year of News Labs’ activity & growth, I have neglected to cover off the great #newsHACK 2 event we held on May 1st & 2nd this year – about 8 weeks ago!
Today we visited Aldo Faisal (creator of the Faisal Lab for Brain & Behaviour) again at Imperial College to go through Neurotechnology prototype opportunities.
Today we made a flying visit to Belfast, to discuss with the BBC folks there how we hope to combine the News Labs and News Archive work.

We just finished a great event with the Connected Studio in Belfast: The News Archive Build Studio. Following on from the Creative Studio events in London and Belfast, and the earlier briefings in London and Belfast, this event saw 8 teams create 8 prototypes, all of which will go into audience testing.
Yesterday saw a great creative event in Shoreditch, put on by the Connected Studio team. I did some MC’ing to help out, and the brief included the context of the News Storyline data model.
