#newsHACK III – Language Technology was a 2 day hack event in London focussed on “Multilingual Automated News Services of the Future”.
In a frantic year of News Labs’ activity & growth, I have neglected to cover off the great #newsHACK 2 event we held on May 1st & 2nd this year – about 8 weeks ago!
The BBC Academy College of Journalism just published this video about Rapid Prototyping with BBC News Labs.

We just finished a great event with the Connected Studio in Belfast: The News Archive Build Studio. Following on from the Creative Studio events in London and Belfast, and the earlier briefings in London and Belfast, this event saw 8 teams create 8 prototypes, all of which will go into audience testing.
We’ve just kicked off a new project called #newsVANE.
On the 10th, I took part in a press launch for the “International Startup Conference” run by Room in the Moon’s Rafael dos Santos, at Google Campus. I’ll be talking about rapid prototyping at the event in mid March at Ravensbourne College in London. Press Launch for Startup Conference

Today we ran a demo event to show the prototypes and outcomes from the 2012 Summer Labs. The event was an informal “Trade Fair” format, with 5 demo teams each working at a table to demonstrate and explain the prototypes.

Today, slightly eclipsed by the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, we completed the first of our BBC News Labs “Summer Labs”. This Lab was on the exploration of a “Geolocation” problem space. We saw 4 great demos coming out of the 2 week Hack event.
We are very pleased to introduce “THE NEWS JUICER”. This is the Semantic Prototyping Platform for BBC News Labs, which will provide real semantic data sources and APIs for the BBC News Labs “Summer Labs” between now and end of September 2012.
