Today I ran a demo of BBC Connected Studio content for BBC Trust and the Press. I was demonstrating some new Connected Studio concepts, alongside BBC Blueroom, R&D immersive reality, and more.
Furiously working on getting the BBC #newsHACK to be as brilliant and useful as possible.
The team took some time out at the end of a hard day, at The Bree Louise, to further discuss the News Storyline Ontology, and how we might use complex Storylines at #newsHACK.
Thanks to the massively helpful Steve Alderton (connected studio), we’ve just launched the new BBC News Labs website, as part of our new Partnership with BBC Connected Studio. We are officially “Powered by BBC Connected Studio”.
I am now very pleased to have moved the BBC News Labs main location to the BBC R&D Central Lab in Euston, London. We are based there now with our partners BBC Connected Studio, as well as UCL Computer Science, and the BBC R&D “Internet Research and Future Services” department.

Very pleased that Jeremy Tarling and partners published the News Storyline Ontology today. This is looking favourable as the cornerstone of BBC News’ future curation data structure. This has been some great work, coming out of News Labs’ “PR & Outreach” workstream.
Today Jeremy Tarling and I ran a demo event at BBC Caversham. We were demo-ing the latest BBC News Labs work, and the BBC Blueroom were also there with their usual array of amazing, cutting-edge consumer equipment.
Today we ran a demo event to show the prototypes and outcomes from the 2012 Summer Labs. The event was an informal “Trade Fair” format, with 5 demo teams each working at a table to demonstrate and explain the prototypes.
We’ve just run the “Events & Politics” Lab as part of the BBC News Labs Summer Labs events. Findings include:- There is an opportunity in the Linked Data “Events” space. Today, slightly eclipsed by the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, we completed the first of our BBC News Labs “Summer Labs”. This Lab was on the exploration of a “Geolocation” problem space. We saw 4 great demos coming out of the 2 week Hack event.
We are very pleased to introduce “THE NEWS JUICER”. This is the Semantic Prototyping Platform for BBC News Labs, which will provide real semantic data sources and APIs for the BBC News Labs “Summer Labs” between now and end of September 2012.
Today we started BBC News Labs – a small group of us from BBC News working to innovate and open new opportunities for BBC News.
